The event, titled “From Dushanbe to HLPF and Abu Dhabi: Leveraging Multilateral Processes to Accelerate Water Action for Sustainable Development,” was organized by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Nations jointly with the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and in cooperation with the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

Speaking at the event, Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the United Nations Jonibek Hikmat noted that the Fourth International High-Level Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028,” held under the theme “Uniting the World for Water,” brought together more than 2,500 participants from over 110 countries and served as an important milestone in advancing Sustainable Development Goal 6 and the implementation of the International Decade for Action.

It was highlighted that key outcomes of the conference included the adoption of the Dushanbe Declaration, the Co-Chairs’ Summary and the Dushanbe Contribution to the 2026 UN Water Conference. These documents consolidate key recommendations, voluntary commitments and new partnerships, and will play an important role in preparations for the UN Water Conference 2026 in Abu Dhabi and the final review of the Decade for Action in Tajikistan in 2028.

Jonibek Hikmat also presented the initiative of President of the Republic of Tajikistan and Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon on establishing the Dushanbe Water Process Framework as an effective platform for strengthening international cooperation on water issues beyond 2030.

It was emphasized that the initiative builds upon the achievements of the International Decade for Action, the Dushanbe Water Process and the Water Action Agenda, and aims to enhance coordination, implementation and international partnerships to accelerate global water-related action.
