Several historical and cultural monuments and sites in Tajikistan have been added to UNESCO’s World Heritage Tentative List, the Agency for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Heritage told the NIAT “Khovar” news agency.

The list includes petroglyphs in the Langar, Darshayr, Shakhta, Naizatosh and Bakhmaldzhilga areas of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region. It also includes the ancient historical and natural sites of Kuldara, Lokhuti, Obi Mazor and Khonako in Khovaling district of the Khatlon region.

The petroglyphs and archaeological sites are considered important examples of Tajikistan’s historical and cultural heritage and are of scientific, cultural and historical significance.

Their study and preservation are important for research into ancient civilizations and the cultural development of the region.

The inclusion of the sites on UNESCO’s Tentative List marks a step toward promoting Tajikistan’s historical, cultural and natural heritage internationally and strengthening efforts to preserve, study and promote these sites.
