At a meeting of the Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, held in Dushanbe, a resolution on strengthening the culture of rational water resource use as a civilizational value and a foundation for sustainable development in the Asian region was adopted.

The resolution was drafted at the initiative of Tajikistan in support of the global water and climate initiatives of the Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, and was unanimously adopted by the participating states. The document recognizes water not merely as a source of life, but also as a significant spiritual, cultural, and civilizational value, an integral element of humanity’s relationship with nature, and a foundation for the sustainable coexistence of societies.

The resolution places particular emphasis on the need to foster a «culture of water» as an integral part of state policy and public awareness. It calls upon member states to develop national and regional educational programs focused on the rational and efficient use of water resources.

In this context, proposals have been put forward to incorporate the values of responsible water use into educational systems, including school and university curricula, and to expand awareness-raising activities, forums, and training programs. The document recognizes the vital role of young people, women, and civil society in fostering a responsible attitude toward water resources and highlights the importance of strengthening cooperation among universities and scientific centers in the fields of water and environmental protection.

Furthermore, the resolution addresses the protection of freshwater sources, including glaciers, as a crucial component of the natural and cultural heritage of present and future generations, and advocates stronger regional cooperation in this area. The document highlights Tajikistan’s initiatives within the global water agenda, including the «Dushanbe Water Process,» as an important foundation for promoting international dialogue and cooperation on water-related issues.

The adoption of this document in Dushanbe is aimed at strengthening cultural and educational approaches to water resource management and expanding cooperation among Asian countries in fostering a culture of rational and sustainable water use.

The outcomes of the implementation of the resolution’s provisions will be reviewed at future sessions of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly.
