Guliston and Buston — new names of the two cities of Sughd region
Dushanbe, 03.03.2016. (NIAT “Khovar”). – The name of Qairoqqum city has been transformed into Guliston and Chkalov into Buston city. In this regard, the members of Majlisi milli on March 3 have confirmed the proposal of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and Majlis of people’s deputies of Sughd region at the fifth session of the Upper House of Parliament of the country. The name of Ghonchi district has also been changed into Devashtich.
The purpose of changing of the names of the two cities and one district in northern part of the country is to implement the requests, proposals and patriotic aspirations of the people regarding the restoration of true historical names, promotion of supreme national traditions.
