Discussion on Tourism Development Held in Dushanbe
DUSHANBE, 20.12.2018 (NIAT Khovar) – Today, the Committee for Tourism Development (CTD) held a roundtable to discuss the current state, prospects and ways of implementing the National Tourism Development Strategy until 2030 (NTDS2030).
The Chairman of the CTD Numon Abdugaforzoda, representatives of a number of related ministries and departments, the media, heads of country’s travel agencies and development investors attended the roundtable.
The NTDS2030 was developed on the recommendation of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, and was approved by the Assembly on August 1, 2018, noted Abdugafforzoda in his opening remark.
He also added that the strategy will be implemented through three medium-term periods and will play an important role in the development of the country’s economy.
It was noted that 908,773 foreign tourists visited Tajikistan during the first nine months of this year, which is more than twice the amount for same period in 2017. It is expected that the number of tourists will exceed one million by the end of 2018.
The total number of travel agencies in Tajikistan has reached 140. Only this year, 70 new domestic travel agencies were formed.
Earlier this year, the President of Tajikistan had declared 2018 as the Year of Tourism and Folk Crafts Development. The NTDS2030 was developed and approved following the declaration.
NTDS2030 takes into account the international commitments of Tajikistan on the Agenda for the XXI Century and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), approved by the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly on September 2015.
