Avalanche Warning and Winter Weather Advisory for Khatlon, Hissor, and GBAO
DUSHANBE, 04.01.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – The Agency for Hydrometeorology of Tajikistan warns the public of unstable weather and heavy rain and snow for January 4-5.
On January 5, heavy precipitations is expected in the mountainous areas of the districts of the republican subordination and in the foothill areas of the Khatlon province. The daily temperature is expected to drop between 0 to 5 degrees Celsius in the valleys.
Snow avalanches warnings are in effect for the southern slopes of the Hissor range and the western areas of Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region.
“While passing avalanche areas on mountain roads it is necessary to keep a distance of 500 meters between vehicles,” warns the agency.
On January 5 and 6, due to heavy precipitation, packed snow, sleet and snow drifts are expected on the Dushanbe-Khujand highway. Extremely caution is advised.
