Assembly of Representatives Speaker Zokirzoda Attends the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Council Meeting
DUSHANBE, 16.06.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – Today, a meeting of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) took place in a video conference format. The meeting was presided by the Chairman of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, who is currently serving as the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Chairman.
Tajik Assembly of Representatives Speaker Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda attended and addressed the meeting.
The meeting focused on the priorities of the Russian chairmanship in 2020, on the results of the CSTO November 2019 meeting, on the situation in areas of responsibility of the organization, measures to counter threats to collective security, the adoption of international documents, on the approval of the chairman of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Standing Committee on Socio-Economic and Legal Issues, the Results of the Implementation of the Program of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly and the harmonization of national legislation of CSTO states members for 2016-2020, Program for the functioning of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly and coordination of the national legislation of the CSTO member states for 2021-2025, financing the CSTO parliamentary activities, the date and venue of the Council’s next meeting, the thirteenth meeting of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, and a number of other issues.
Zokirzoda noted that Tajikistan comprehensively supports the joint efforts of member states aimed at further strengthening cooperation within the framework of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
“We are confident that the further development of our mutually beneficial cooperation will provide serious assistance not only in the direction of socio-economic development, but also is a reliable means of ensuring stability and security in the area of responsibility of the organization. I am confident that the current exchange of views will facilitate coordination of positions and solidarity with the situation in the organization’s area of responsibility, as well as an objective assessment of threats and security measures,” added Zokirzoda.
He also noted that Tajikistan is constantly striving to implement CSTO programs and strategies and is taking measures to provide organizational and legal support to the organization.
The chairperson of the Coordinating Committee of the National Assembly with the executive body, public associations, the media and inter-parliamentary relations, President of the National Academy of Sciences Farhod Rahimi and Chairman of the Assembly of Representatives Committee on Law, Order, Defense and Security Rustam Shohmurod also attended the meeting.
