Representatives Assembly Speaker Meets with Indian Ambassador

DUSHANBE, 14.08.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – Today, Speaker of Representatives Assembly Mahmadtohir Zokirzoda met with the Indian Ambassador to Tajikistan Viraj Singh.
The parties discussed the prospects for interstate cooperation between Tajikistan and India as well as inter-parliamentary ties.
The parties noted the importance of approving and implementing the documents signed during President Rahmon’s official visit to India in order to raise relations to a qualitatively new level.
Over 70 intergovernmental and sectoral agreements and memorandums form the legal basis of bilateral relations.
An intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation works between the two states, which is one of the main mechanisms for the development of bilateral economic cooperation.
More than 100 Indian companies operate in Tajikistan, and more than 1,083 names of medicines and medical goods are registered in the state register.
It was noted that the parties should intensify their cooperation within the framework of existing opportunities in the field of information technology, especially the study of modern computer programs and training of qualified personnel.
In order to increase the level of knowledge of Tajik specialists, the Indian government annually conducts various training courses within the framework of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme (ITEC) and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).
“We express our satisfaction with the level and content of bilateral relations. There is a huge untapped potential for further development and strengthening of cooperation in various spheres,” Zokirzoda noted.
The officials also proposed establishing bilateral cooperation in the fields of hydropower, transport, agro-industrial complex, education, culture and tourism.
