Tajik and Iranian Foreign Ministers Meet in Dushanbe

DUSHANBE, 31.03.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday, on the sidelines of the Heart of Asia — Istanbul Process 9th Ministerial Conference, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin met with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif.
The ministers emphasized their interest in the development of bilateral political, trade, economic, and cultural relations.
The meeting also focused on issues of strengthening inter-parliamentary relations, especially strengthening the activities of inter-parliamentary friendly groups of Tajikistan and Iran, as well as cooperation within the framework of regional and international organizations.
While referring to the role of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Technical and Cultural Cooperation for expanding relations, the parties stressed the need to fulfill the agreements of the meeting of the Committee to review the implementation of the protocol of the Commission’s 13th meeting and worthy preparation for the Commission’s 14th meeting in the first half of this year. In this context, they noted the importance of increasing the volume of bilateral trade.
Additionally, the parties discussed the implementation of the memorandum of inderstanding between the governments of Tajikistan and Iran on the principles and framework of bilateral cooperation in the field of security.
