Tajikistan Chairs Meeting of the SCO Council of People’s Commissars

DUSHANBE, 04.05.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Tajikistan chaired a regular meeting of the Council of National Coordinators (SNC) of the SCO member states.
The meeting took place from April 27 through April 30 in Tashkent.
The meeting agenda included over 60 issues. National coordinators reviewed the preparations for the main event, namely the meeting of the Council of SCO Heads of State, which will be held on September 16-17 in Dushanbe.
An exchange of views was also held on preparations for the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers on July 13-14 in Dushanbe, during which the Tajik side proposed holding a meeting of the SCO-Afghanistan Contact Group at the level of foreign ministers.
In this context, the draft Plan of Practical Measures for Assisting the Social and Economic Reconstruction of Afghanistan was considered.
National coordinators also exchanged views on the new rotation cycle of the heads of the permanent SCO bodies, and examined the progress in implementing the provisions of the SCO’s Plan of Main Events for 2021.
Members welcomed the adoption of the UN General Assembly resolution put forward by Tajikistan titled UN Cooperation with the SCO, and praised the results of a special high-level event of the SCO and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime co-chaired by Tajikistan and Russia.
An agreement was reached to hold a special meeting of the national coordinators of member states with authorized representatives of foreign ministries of the observer states and SCO dialogue partners within the framework of the upcoming SCO Council of People’s Commissars meeting.
The Council of People’s Commissars carries out general coordination of SCO’s activities. The chairmanship of Tajikistan is held under the slogan 20 Years of the SCO: Cooperation for Stability and Prosperity.
