Emomali Rahmon Meets President Lukashenko of Belarus

The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, who is in Dushanbe to take part in a meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council and SCO Council of Heads of State. The meeting took place in the Palace of the Nation on September 15.
During the meeting, the officials focused on pressing issues of Tajik-Belarus bilateral cooperation and covered a number of issues on the regional and international agenda.
President Rahmon stressed that Tajikistan and Belarus are bound by long-standing traditions of friendship and mutual respect, and due to joint efforts, cooperation between the two countries has reached a qualitatively new level in recent years.
The counterparts also discussed the current state and future prospects of bilateral ties, focusing on trade, agricultural, cultural, and humanitarian spheres.
The stepping-up of the work of the Tajik-Belarusian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation was noted as vital.
While discussing issues on the international agenda, special attention was paid to the current military and political developments in Afghanistan.
Other issues of mutual interest were also touched upon.
