DUSHANBE, 22.02.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received a delegation of the European Parliament led by David McAllister. The meeting took place in the Palace of the Nation.

The discussion focused on further developing cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union with an emphasis on inter-parliamentary ties.

Recalling the special position of the European Union in the foreign policy of Tajikistan, President Rahmon expressed satisfaction in the development and expansion of cooperation above all in the political, economic, security and cultural spheres, as well as in addressing regional issues.

Having assessed the role of the parliaments in the development and expansion of relations, they noted the significant contribution of the Commission and the Committee for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union in the process of strengthening long-term cooperation.

He noted his appreciation of delivering support of European Union to Tajikistan at the height of the pandemic.

While discussing key issues concerning political and security collaboration, they also exchanged views on a number of forward-looking topics on the bilateral cooperation in trade, the economy, and investment. topics on bilateral cooperation in trade, economy, and investment.

The two sides also paid special attention to the implementation of the 2030 National Development Strategy and the new International Decade for Action Water for Sustainable Development.

They touched upon certain topics on the international and regional agenda, and the situation linked with the developments in Afghanistan.

The issues of the joint fight against global threats and challenges were also discussed and the necessity of continuing the partnership within BOMCA and CADAP programs was noted.
