President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon Attended the First Summit of the Heads of States of the Central Asia and European Union in Astana

DUSHANBE, 27.10.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon addressed the first summit of the heads of states of the Central Asia and European Union in Astana.
President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Khojamurod Geldimurodov, President Sadir Japarov of Kyrgyzstan, and the President of the European Union Charles Michel took part in the meeting.
«Today’s event is another good opportunity to discuss and coordinate actions against the backdrop of global geopolitical changes aimed at strengthening the constructive development of interregional cooperation,» said President Rahmon.
He also expressed his satisfaction over the level of cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union, in particular the adoption of the new EU Strategy on Central Asia, and thanked the leadership of the European Union for providing assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic.
It was emphasized that Tajikistan fully supports efforts to develop interregional cooperation in the fields of economy, transport, communications, water, energy, and other issues aimed at the further sustainable development of the countries.
He also emphasized the possibility of strengthening and expanding relations between the countries within Central Asia — European Union in the promising areas of trade and economy, food security, agriculture, transport, logistics, and energy, including green energy.
President Rahmon offered proposals regarding climate change, melting of glaciers, increased flooding, droughts, and negative effects of these phenomena that adversely impact the economic and social situation of the countries.
Certain aspects centered on regional security, including the Afghanistan issue, were the main items of the meeting agenda.
As a result of this meeting, a Joint Statement was made for the media by the Heads of State of Central Asia and the President of the European Council.
