President Emomali Rahmon Meets with UN Secretary General during COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh

DUSHANBE, 08.11.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – On the sideline of the twenty-seventh session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 27) in Sharm El Sheikh of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon held a meeting with the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The issues of cooperation between Tajikistan and the UN and its institutions were discussed at the meeting.
The President of the country, Emomali Rahmon, expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation between the parties and declared Tajikistan’s readiness to continue and expand fruitful relations with the United Nations and its institutions.
It was emphasized that this year marks the 30th anniversary of Tajikistan’s membership in the UN, and our country during this period has secured significant achievements on the path of sustainable development and strengthening the foundations of statehood.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, the elimination of modern threats and challenges, ensuring the highest human values, and resolute combat against the dangers and threats of our time. The issue related to the situation in Afghanistan and its impact on the region was also discussed.
During the conversation, the parties also exchanged views on the global initiatives of Tajikistan in the direction of solving the problems of shortage of drinking water, climate change, melting glaciers and other significant efforts of our country.
It was emphasized that a thousand glaciers have completely melted in Tajikistan over the past few decades. Natural disasters caused damage to the economy of our country in the amount of 250 million dollars, in many cases even caused human losses.
The UN Secretary-General noted the leading and key role of Tajikistan and its Head in solving global problems, especially problems related to water and security.
