Tehran Hosts Briefing on the 2023 UN Water Conference

DUSHANBE, 16.03.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – On March 15, Tehran hosted a briefing dedicated to the implementation of the goals of the UN Water Conference (22-24 March 2023, New York).
The briefing was held in the Iranian Water Research Institute at the initiative of the Embassy of Tajikistan in Iran with the presence of representatives of the ministries of foreign affairs, energy, this institution, other institutions related to the water sector and the Iranian media.
The Ambassador of Tajikistan to Iran Nizomiddin Zohidi provided detailed information about the global initiatives of the President of Tajikistan in the field of water.
In this context, the role of the UN Conference in promoting the goals of the International Decade of Action «Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028» was explained, which will be chaired by the President of Tajikistan and the King of the Netherlands on March 22-24, 2023 in New York.
The Director of the UNESCO Regional Center on Urban Water Management Mohammad Hajrasoulihа, the Adviser to the Minister of Energy of Iran Mоhammadali Farahnаkian, the President of the Iranian Water Research Institute Mohamadreza Kаvianpour and senior managers of the water sector of this country also had speeches at this meeting. During their speeches, the importance of Tajikistan’s global initiatives in the field of water and glaciers’ preservation was emphasized, and the expansion of cooperation between the two countries in these fields within the framework of bilateral relations and international organizations was considered important.
Videos about the water resources of Tajikistan and moments from the speeches of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon at the UN General Assembly on water issues were also shown at the meeting.
