Ways to Remove Barriers to Investment in Water Resources Discussed in New York

DUSHANBE, 20.07.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – A parallel event entitled “The business aspect for taking action: the private sector in the Water Agenda of the UN Water Conference 2023” was held at the UN headquarters in New York, reports the Tajik secretariat of the UN Conference on Water Resources.
The event was organized by Tajikistan, the Netherlands, the U.S., Singapore and Saint Lucia as part of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.
It was aimed at obtaining practical lessons based on the interests and motives of key participants in the water space, namely governments, the private sector, development partners, UN Permanent Coordinators and other stakeholders.
It was given the opportunity to recognize the urgent need for unique resources, experience and innovations of the private sector, as well as to try to remove barriers to investment in water resources.
The Special Envoy of the President of Tajikistan to the Coalition of Leaders on Water and Climate, Chairman of the Executive Committee of IFAS Sulton Rahimzoda noted the importance of combining the efforts of the private sector with governments, civil society organizations and other stakeholders in order to exchange experience, technology and financial opportunities for the development of innovative solutions, the introduction of sustainable methods of using water resources and support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals related to water resources.
“Recognizing water as a strategic business issue and establishing cooperation with other stakeholders, companies (the private sector) can reduce risks and costs, as well as improve their reputation and, using new opportunities, contribute to the implementation of the Water Action Agenda,” added Rahimzoda.
