DUSHANBE WATER PROCESS. Parliamentarians to discuss water problems and demographic sustainability for the benefit of youth

DUSHANBE, 06.06.2024 (NIAT Khovar) – Water Resources and Demographic Sustainability for the Interest of Youth’s Forum”, which will be held on June 10 at the National Library of Tajikistan, will bring together deputies of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, high-level representatives of the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD), the Asian Population and Development Association (APDA) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
The Forum entitled “Water Resources and Demographic Sustainability for the Interest of Youth” is held with the aim of implementing global initiatives of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, and taking into account the active role in solving water-related issues at the level of world parliaments, especially in the Asia-Pacific region.
Representatives of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, ministries and agencies, diplomatic corps accredited in Dushanbe, international organizations, initiative youth, representatives of institutions of higher professional education, mass media are also invited to the forum.
Parliamentarians from more than 20 countries, including Japan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Malaysia, Armenia, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, Nepal, Romania, as well as regional and country representatives of international organizations are expected to participate in the forum.
The forum will discuss the empowerment of women, youth, gender equality, demographic stability, poverty, water scarcity and climate change, as well as solutions to realize women’s full potential through family policies, strengthening partnerships and accelerating action to achieve the 2030 Agenda and sharing experiences to raise awareness and promote sustainable development.
The purpose of the forum is to facilitate a dialogue among representatives of parliaments on the implementation of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) Program of Action. It is designed to achieve global political consensus on sexual health and reproductive rights, to achieve real national results.
The development and adoption of the Dushanbe Declaration, specific actions taken by parliamentarians to prioritize population sustainability, gender equality, youth empowerment, water security and climate change action to achieve the ICPD agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals should be reflected.
In addition, the Forum delegates are expected to attend the inaugural ceremony of the Third High-Level International Conference on the International Decade of Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028”, which will be held in June in the capital of the country.
Recall that the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD) consists of 33 national committees uniting parliamentarians from the Asia-Pacific and Central Asian regions. AFPPD serves as a forum for recommending and coordinating policies aimed at creating a better future for all humanity, especially for the most vulnerable segments of society, including women, children, youth and the elderly.
