DUSHANBE, 02.07.2024 (NIAT Khovar) — On July 2, the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, received in the Palace of the Nation the Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland Ignazio Cassis, the Federal Minister of Finance Karin Keller-Sutter and the Chairman of the Swiss National Bank Thomas Jordan.
The issues of cooperation between Tajikistan and Switzerland and their relations within the framework of international and regional organizations were discussed at the meeting.
«We consider the Swiss Confederation to be our reliable partner in the international arena, and your country has a special status in the foreign policy of Tajikistan,» — the Honorable Head of State Emomali Rahmon stated at the beginning of the meeting.
Further expansion of ties in all areas of mutual interest, such as political, inter-parliamentary, economic and agricultural sectors, was called beneficial.
It was considered necessary to attract Swiss capital and its modern technologies to the development of hydropower, light and food industry, pharmaceuticals, extraction and processing of natural resources, and digitization of the economy.
During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on cooperation in other areas of interest, including tourism, close cultural and humanitarian relations, and science and education.
Satisfaction was expressed with the constant coordination within the framework of international and regional organizations on the key issues of the modern era, and the regular support of Switzerland in the implementation of Tajikistan’s global initiatives in the field of water and climate was emphasized.
Cooperation in the fight against terrorism, extremism, radicalism, as well as cross-border organized crime, including drug trafficking and cybercrime, was also reviewed during the meeting.
