DUSHANBE, 28.05.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – On May 28, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honourable Emomali Rahmon, received the Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization, Ms. Celeste Saulo, who arrived in Dushanbe to participate in the first International High-Level Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation.

The meeting discussed issues related to expanding bilateral cooperation and the agenda of the high-level conference on glaciers’ conservation.

The President of the country, Emomali Rahmon, having welcomed the distinguished guest, expressed gratitude for the support of Tajikistan’s global initiatives, including in the field of glaciers’ conservation.

The Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization, in turn, highly appreciated the consistent efforts of Tajikistan and the Head of our State in promoting the use of water as a source of peace and mutual understanding.

The proposal to establish a Regional Coordination Center for Glaciers’ Studies in Dushanbe under the auspices of the World Meteorological Organization and with the assistance of other development partners was recognized as important.

There was also a fruitful exchange of views on the joint initiative of Tajikistan and France on declaring a “Decade of Action in Cryospheric Sciences 2025-2034” and other topics of mutual interest.
