“Climate change is one of the most serious problems where I come from. We face not only devastating floods, but also droughts,” Faraz Saeed, a representative of Pakistan TV Digital, Pakistan’s state television broadcaster, told a correspondent of NIAT Khovar.
According to Saeed, Pakistan’s minister responsible for environmental issues is participating in the Fourth High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028,” being held at the Kokhi Somon Complex in Dushanbe. During the conference, the minister delivered a presentation on climate change.
“Our minister spoke about how severely South Asia is suffering from the effects of climate change and how water has become a key resource,” Saeed said. “Today, the situation is gradually turning into a serious crisis, as floods and droughts are among the most pressing issues affecting not only Pakistan’s population, but also the country’s economy.”
Saeed described the conference as critically important, saying it provides a platform for experts and specialists to propose practical solutions to global challenges.
“I would also like to express my gratitude to the President of the Republic of Tajikistan for the tremendous work that has been accomplished, because millions of lives are at stake today,” he said. “If effective solutions can be found through conferences like these, it will be an important step toward saving millions of people already at risk.”
According to Saeed, Tajikistan’s president has launched a significant initiative aimed at addressing the global water crisis and protecting vulnerable populations.
“I would especially like to commend the speech delivered today by your Leader of the Nation,” he said. “To promote and strengthen water diplomacy and ensure a secure future, the International Water Prize of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan was established. This is a very important and timely initiative.”
Saeed also shared his impressions of Tajikistan and its capital city.
“Tajikistan is a wonderful country, and Dushanbe is a beautiful and modern city,” he said. “It is a remarkable blend of history, culture and modern architecture, all harmoniously combined in one place.”
“Dushanbe is not a carbon copy of any European or American city,” he added. “On the contrary, it has its own unique character. I recently spoke with my colleagues about how world leaders are gathering in this capital today.”
