DUSHANBE, 25.05.2026 (NIAT Khovar) – The visionary leadership of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in the field of water resources and green energy development serves as an inspiration for countries around the world. This was stated by Rector of the United Nations University and United Nations Under-Secretary-General Tshilidzi Marwala following his meeting with the President of Tajikistan.
“Tajikistan is a source of water in Central Asia. I was deeply impressed by the use of this resource to accelerate green energy development in the country,” Tshilidzi Marwala noted.
According to him, the fact that 98 percent of Tajikistan’s electricity is generated from green sources is an inspiring example not only for Central Asia, but for the entire world.
The UN Under-Secretary-General also highly praised Tajikistan’s goal of achieving 100 percent reliance on green energy by 2032.
“This objective is absolutely inspiring,” he emphasized.
Tshilidzi Marwala expressed gratitude to President Emomali Rahmon for the initiative to support the Water Award, noting that the United Nations University fully supports this initiative.
He also announced that the University is exploring the possibility of establishing its presence in Tajikistan.
At the conclusion of his remarks, Tshilidzi Marwala thanked the Tajik side for its warm hospitality and said he was greatly impressed by the country’s leadership and achievements.
