Countering domestic violence in focus of OSCE-organized training course in Tajikistan
Dushanbe, 03.06.2016 / NIAT “Khovar” /. The OSCE Office in Tajikistan today concluded a four-day training course in Dushanbe for 33 government officials, representatives of civil society and police on countering domestic violence.
According to the OSCE office in Tajikistan, the representatives of several state crisis centers from various regions of the country, psychologists from the network of OSCE-supported women resource centre’s and police officers working within the specialized gender-sensitive police units discussed a complex approach to countering domestic violence and improving the skills of those working with victims and perpetrators.
The training programme covered therapeutic methods applied in the psychological rehabilitation of domestic violence victims, as well as sharing good practices and approaches used in other countries for correction programmes targeting perpetrators.
“It was very important to invite police inspectors from our respective regions, as we learned about the progressive models of local co-operation with the psychologists from the crisis centres, while working with domestic violence subjects,” said Madina Sangova, Gender-Sensitive Policing Officer in Kulyab city. “We understand that victims should be at the centre of all our efforts to enable their rehabilitation and empowerment, as well as facilitating their access to justice.”
