Dushanbe, 19.08.2016. /NIAT «Khovar»/. The United States Government, via its Embassy in Dushanbe, has recently handed over $12 million worth communication equipment and vehicles to Tajikistan’s National Border Guard.
In a short ceremony held at National Guard Camp, the United States Ambassador to Tajikistan, Ms. Elisabeth Millard, presented General-Lieutenant Rajabali Rahmonali of the Border Guard Troops of Tajikistan, with communications package.
Chairman of State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of Tajikistan S.Yatimov and Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs Sh. Khayrulloev also attended the ceremony.
The United States Government donated $9 million worth communications equipment and $3 million worth J8 Jeep Wranglers.
This equipment was funded by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) Counter-Narcotics Program and represents the United States’ continued commitment to counter the trafficking of illegal drugs in Tajikistan, noted in his speech Elizabeth Millard.
CENTCOM supplied Motorola radios with TURBO-net software capable of tracking personnel on the ground using GPS, RF-7800W radios with Ethernet technology to allow for connectivity at distances greater than 160km, other technical communications equipment and software, and 50 J8 Jeep Wranglers. These vehicles and communications equipment will be used to increase Tajikistan’s Border Guard Agency’s ability to identify, confiscate, and prevent narcotics crossing Tajikistan’s borders.
