DUSHANBE, 20.02.2017 /NIAT “Khovar”/. In the days of precipitation in Tajikistan on the highways Khorog — Murgob, Rasht — Jirgatol and especially on the highway Dushanbe — Khujand was recorded descent of snow avalanches. NIAT “Khovar” has been reported by the head of the press centre of Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense /CESCD/ under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Umeda Yusupova.

“On February 17, 18 and 19 as a result of descent of more than 80 snow avalanches and heavy snowfall 75 vehicles were blocked on the highway Dushanbe — Ayni. At this time the road is closed”, — she said.

According to her, for the organization of work on people evacuation and their escort to the safe zone were created the joint interagency headquarters at 48 and 72 km of a highway of Dushanbe — Ayni led by the First Deputy and Deputy Chairman of CESCD. As a result of fulfilled works from February 17 to 20 were evacuated 78 passengers and drivers of motor vehicles.

For the cleaning of the highway the road service company Innovative Road Solutions (IRS) has allocated special machinery. On the site of avalanche for the ensuring safety of population were created posts from among the staff of traffic police and road service IRS.

The tense situation on the section of highway Vanj – Khorogh – Murghob, which is closed due to rockfalls and avalanches, is maintained. The staff for the liquidation of emergency situations is created under the leadership of the Chairman of the region and operates around the clock.

“The avalanche danger still exists for 5-8 days. According to old residents, such anomalous precipitation and avalanches have not been observed for 20-30 years”, — said the head of the press center of CESCD.

We will recall that earlier the CESCD warned the citizens and guests of the republic that up to February 20, in GBAO regions and mountains of Gissar range, as well as on the highways Dushanbe — Khorog, Dushanbe — Khujand, Dushanbe — Jirgatol and Khorog — Murghob will exist a danger of avalanches.
