Khujand Fortress Collection Exceeds 13,600 Objects
DUSHANBE, 15.01.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – Over 401 objects were given to the fund of the historical-cultural complex Khujand Fortress in 2018, making the total number of objects in museum’s collection reach over 13,600.
“Employees of the museum intend to further enrich the museum’s fund, as well as organize outdoor exhibitions in 2019-2021,” noted the source.
Over 42,000 domestic and foreign visitors visited the museum in 2018, reported the Tajik Ministry of Culture.
The fortress was built in around 5th century BC. However, the fortress was destroyed around 1220 when it was under siege of Genghis Khan’s army. The fortress was rebuilt in 1500s. The fortress as it stands now was restored in 1999.
