President Emomali Rahmon held talks with President of the Swiss Confederation Ueli Maurer
DUSHANBE, 26.04.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – The President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon had a meeting with the President of the Swiss Confederation Ueli Maurer. The meeting focused on the expansion of bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade, economy, investment, industry, science, culture, education and tourism. The joint implementation of industry projects and establishing joint production enterprises were also discussed.
President Emomali Rahmon expressed his satisfaction with current state of the Tajik – Swiss bilateral relationship, in particular the Swiss development cooperation program in Tajikistan.
Noting the cooperation level between both countries as satisfactory, President Maurer said that “Tajikistan [is] a key country in Central Asia, and we will continue collaboration for the benefit of our people.”
The counterparts shared their views on enhancing the High-Level Political Dialogue, the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, the development and implementation of projects beneficial for both countries, strengthening the banking system and restoring direct flights between Tajikistan and Switzerland, which is a factor for driving trade and economic development between the two countries.
Regional and international issues, in particular stepping up collaboration within the UN and OSCE were also mentioned.
Following the meeting, President Emomali Rahmon invited the President Maurer to visit Tajikistan at his convenience.
