Tajik Women’s Committee Intends to Organize Free HIV and Cancer Tests
DUSHANBE, 13.02.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – This year the Committee for Women and Family Affairs under the government of Tajikistan intends to organize free HIV and cancer tests for some women in several cities and districts. This information was confirmed yesterday by the committee’s Chairman Hilolby Kurbonzoda.
“These measures will be taken to prevent infectious and oncological diseases among Tajik women,” Kurbonzoda said.
According to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population, the total number of people suffering from HIV is currently 1,320, including 548 women.
Last year the committee had carried out a number of activities aimed at preventing infectious diseases among women and girls.
HIV infection, which has a social aspect, is one of the main problems of the modern world. Tajikistan, along with other states, is not immune from HIV.
The state programs and strategies are being implemented to prevent the spread of infection and fight against it.
“Nearly 2,500 people have died from the virus in the last 20 years, which two, three decades ago was not prevalent in our country at all,” President Emomali Rahmon noted in one of his speeches.
