Assembly of Representatives Adopts Tajikistan’s Water Code
DUSHANBE, 13.02.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday, deputies of the Assembly of Representatives adopted a new version of the Water Code of Tajikistan, which was developed by the government in accordance with the law of legislative initiative.
“The draft of the Water Code’s new version was developed to fulfill paragraph 5 of the Action Plan of the Program for Reforming the Water Industry of Tajikistan for 2016-2025,” the Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Resources Jamshed Shoimzoda commented.
“The current Water Code was adopted in 2000 and is the only document providing regulation of water relations in the field of use and protection of water resources, considering the previously existing structure of public administration in the water sector,” he added.
The main goals of the Water Code are to protect the state water fund and the lands of the state water fund to improve the social conditions of the population and the environment, protect it from pollution, clogging, depletion, improve the condition and protection of water bodies, and strengthening the rule of law and protecting the rights of individuals and legal entities on water use.
The draft code under consideration consists of 13 chapters and 95 articles that define issues relating to the tasks and principles of Tajik water legislation, state regulation and control in the field of use and protection of water resources, and other industry provisions.
