DUSHANBE, 10.02.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Tajikistan has issued a statement regarding the recent statements made by certain Kyrgyz politicians about the alleged transfer of the source of the Tortkul reservoir to Tajikistan.
«The process of delimitation and demarcation of the Tajik-Kyrgyz border is not complete. Negotiations of the governmental delegations on border issues continue. The section of the territory along which the reservoir passes, mentioned by the deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh, until the completion of the delimitation of the border in accordance with the norms of international law is considered to be non-delimited. Currently, there can be no question of the transfer by one party of any disputed area to the other party,» noted the Tajik MFA.
«The ministry urges politicians of the neighboring country to approach statements about the Tajik-Kyrgyz border with great caution, since the dissemination of unverified information may contribute to destabilization of the situation in the border territories of the two brotherly states,» highlighted the ministry.
