Mudflows Result in Several Deaths

DUSHANBE, 11.05.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Due to heavy rain on May 11, a number of districts of Khatlon region and districts of the republican subordination were flooded, which resulted in a number of casualties, destruction of housing, and washing of roads.
According to preliminary data, three people died as a result of the natural disaster in the Shamsiddin Shohin district. The victims were in a car at the time of the mudflow.
Three other people died in Kulob. Two of them were in a car during the mudflow. One more person died in Hissor while grazing a herd of cows.
A commission has been established to determine the damage and assess the consequences of natural disasters. It is headed by the Prime Minister, the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Chairman of the State Committee for National Security, the Chairman of the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense, and heads of other ministries and departments.
