Ankara Hosts Briefing On Second International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”

DUSHANBE, 13.05.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – More than 160 diplomatic missions, consular offices and representative offices of international organizations accredited in Turkey participated in an in-person and virtual format in a briefing at the UN Office in Turkey on the theme of the Second High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable development, 2018-2028.”
The briefing began with opening remarks by the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkey Alvaro Rodriguez, Ambassador of Tajikistan to Turkey Ashrafjon Gulov and the Head of the Environment, Climate Change and Transboundary Waters Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Adnan Altay Altinors.
Gulov spoke in detail about the Second Dushanbe Water Conference, which will be held from June 6 through June 9 this year.
He noted that this initiative was first proposed by President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon on April 12, 2015 at the 7th World Water Forum in the Republic of Korea and adopted by the UN in the Council with a vote of more than 190 countries with a special resolution. According to the Resolution, the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028” began on International Water Day — March 22, 2018 and will last until March 22, 2028.
The representative of the Tajik Embassy explained to the attendees the content of the said conference and presented the preparation process for it, the program, the concept and other relevant information about the event.
Along with this, the participants discussed various aspects of water and climate issues and made a speech on the role of the conference in the process of preparing for next year’s UN conference on the mid-term review of the Second Water Decade.
Following the briefing, Ambassador of Tajikistan to Turkey had an interview with representatives of the Turkish media about the international initiatives of President Emomali Rahmon related to water.
