Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Regarding Incident on the Tajik-Kyrgyz Border

DUSHANBE, 14.06.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – On June 14, another armed incident occurred in the zone of responsibility of the Kekh border post in Vorukh village of Isfara. At 06:00 local time, the post was subjected to sudden shelling from the military personnel of Kyrgyzstan, reads the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan.
“As a result of this unprovoked act of aggression, the commander of the Kekh border post of Tajikistan was injured and was taken to a medical facility in Vorukh. His state of health is assessed as critical,” it continues.
At 07:30 local time, as a result of emergency negotiations between the border representatives of the parties held at the initiative of the Tajik side, a ceasefire was reached.
“In view of the above, the Tajik side notes with regret that such provocations by Kyrgyzstan against Tajikistan have become systematic. These illegal actions only aggravate the situation on the border and do not contribute to maintaining the spirit of friendship and good neighborliness between the two countries. The Tajik side condemns the provocative actions of the Kyrgyz military and demands that the Kyrgyz side take urgent measures to prevent such incidents in the future.»
