Tajikistan — Uzbekistan Summit Talks Continue in Tashkent

The discussion of the current state and prospects of friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan then continued at the first meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council with the participation of official delegations from both sides.
The official negotiations between the two sides began with congratulatory speeches on the occasion of the International Holiday of Navruz, which has great historical and cultural value for both neighboring countries.
During the first meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council, the establishment of which was considered a sign of reaching a high level of strategic partnership and alliance relations between the two neighboring countries, a wide range of issues of strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation were considered.
It was noted with satisfaction that the volume of trade turnover between the two countries is approaching $1 billion, and it was expressed confidence that this figure will be increased to $2 billion by 2030.
It was noted that currently 410 enterprises with the capital of Tajik entrepreneurs operate in Uzbekistan, and 131 joint ventures of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan operate in Tajikistan. This statistic was called a clear indicator of the expansion of investment cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
Also, the creation of favorable conditions for the movement of citizens between the two countries, including for tourism purposes, was considered one of the important achievements of the parties in recent years. In this regard, the Leader of the Nation emphasized that in 2025, about 2 million 800 thousand of our citizens visited Uzbekistan, and more than 1 million 100 thousand citizens of the neighboring country visited Tajikistan.
The high pace of expansion of cooperation in strategic sectors, such as energy, industry, transport and agriculture, was pointed out.
Satisfaction was expressed with the successful holding of a joint exhibition of sectoral products in Tashkent, the Days of Tajik Culture in Uzbekistan, and the interregional forum of entrepreneurs of the two countries in the city of Jizzakh, Uzbekistan, which were held on the sidelines of this visit.
Strengthening cooperation was considered necessary for the widespread use of new technologies, the latest achievements of modern science and technology, as well as supporting young scientists and innovators.
Great attention was paid to finding ways to further develop cooperation in the sectors of education, healthcare, youth, sports, and tourism.
Enhancing cooperation between law enforcement agencies was also an important topic of the meeting. In this regard, the need for joint coordination in combating terrorism and extremism, cybercrime, drug trafficking, and other manifestations of cross-border organized crime was stressed.
Particular attention was also paid to cooperation on regional and global issues. Our Head of State, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, among others, called the situation in our region «complex» and stated that further joint efforts are required to effectively respond to common dangers and threats.
