President Emomali Rahmon and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze Discuss Prospects for Enhanced Tajik-Georgian Partnership

On June 19, at the Palace of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, met with the Prime Minister of Georgia, His Excellency Irakli Kobakhidze, who is paying an official visit to Tajikistan at the head of a high-level delegation from the friendly country.

During the talks, the two sides held detailed discussions on the current state and future prospects of bilateral relations and exchanged views on pressing international and regional issues.

The importance of intensifying political dialogue and maintaining constructive contacts at various levels was emphasized. The parties also highlighted the expansion of inter-parliamentary relations and the strengthening of parliamentary diplomacy as important components of cooperation between the two countries.

Trade and economic cooperation featured prominently on the agenda of the negotiations.

In this context, the parties discussed the implementation of joint investment projects, the establishment of production chains in promising sectors of the economy, and the development of e-commerce.

The joint utilization of interregional transit corridors, cooperation in agriculture, light and food industries, and pharmaceuticals, as well as the promotion of technological innovation, including artificial intelligence, and the development of a green economy, were identified as promising areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.

In considering cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, special attention was given to strengthening ties in science, education, tourism, healthcare, culture, youth policy, and sports.

The parties expressed satisfaction with the signing of a substantial package of bilateral documents during the Prime Minister’s official visit, noting that these agreements would further strengthen the legal framework of cooperation between the two countries.

Particular importance was attached to the signing of the Agreement on the Establishment of a Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.

In this regard, President Emomali Rahmon stated:

“We believe that the activities of this Commission will provide comprehensive support for the implementation of practical measures aimed at advancing the aforementioned and other areas of cooperation between our two countries.”

During discussions on international and regional issues, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to continuing constructive cooperation in the international arena, including through coordination within the framework of the United Nations and its specialized agencies, with particular attention to the global water and climate agenda.

Following the meeting, President Emomali Rahmon and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze held a joint press conference for representatives of the media.

It was noted that eleven bilateral documents were signed during the Prime Minister’s official visit, further strengthening the legal foundation of relations between the two countries.

The Agreement on the Establishment of a Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was highlighted as one of the most significant outcomes of the visit.

The remaining documents cover cooperation in such areas as civil aviation, agriculture, tourism, science and education, culture, sports, climate change, and other fields of mutual interest and benefit.
