Flash Floods Cause Significant Damage in Villages of Ayni District

DUSHANBE, 12.07.2026 (NIAT Khovar) – Heavy rainfall triggered flash floods in the villages of Darg and Kazdon in the Shamtuch rural community of Ayni District on July 11, causing substantial damage to residential houses, agricultural land and several key social and infrastructure facilities, local authorities reported.

According to preliminary information, floodwaters descended from the Surkhi canal and the Kashak and Jari streams in Kazdon village before spreading into both settlements. The floods damaged roads and pedestrian pathways, drinking water and irrigation networks, riverbank protection structures, canals, orchards and agricultural crops.

The disaster also affected 11 passenger vehicles and one KamAZ truck, as well as the surrounding area of Secondary School No. 48 in Kazdon village, the regional hospital in Darg village, grocery stores and other private property belonging to local residents.

No casualties or injuries have been reported as a result of the natural disaster.

A district emergency response headquarters has been established to coordinate relief efforts, assess the extent of the damage and provide immediate assistance to affected residents.

Emergency response teams and working groups began operations immediately after the incident and continue to work around the clock in the affected areas. Available equipment and resources have been mobilized to restore roads, clear mud and debris, ensure public safety and rehabilitate damaged infrastructure.

The situation remains under the close supervision of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, which has instructed relevant agencies to take all necessary measures to eliminate the consequences of the disaster as quickly as possible.

Specialists from the district emergency management and civil defense department, the Ministry of Internal Affairs office in Ayni District and other relevant agencies are currently working on-site to assess material losses and determine the scale of the damage.

Residents of the affected villages have also joined the clean-up effort, helping to clear homes, streets and roads and to remove damaged property in order to restore normal living conditions as soon as possible.

Recovery and clean-up operations are ongoing, and additional information will be provided following the completion of the assessment by the relevant commission.
