Tajikistan Discusses Implementation of UN Disability Rights Convention

A conference titled “Ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: Tajikistan’s Next Initiative in Implementing the Sustainable Development Goals” was held today in Tajikistan, Khovar reported, citing the Majlisi Namoyandagon, the lower house of the parliament of Tajikistan.
The event was organized jointly by the Majlisi Namoyandagon, the UN Programme Office in Tajikistan and the National Association of Persons with Disabilities of Tajikistan.
The conference aimed to facilitate direct dialogue among legislative and executive bodies, development partners and representatives of the disability community.
Mavsuma Muini, deputy speaker of the Majlisi Namoyandagon, emphasized the importance of ratifying the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and identifying priority measures to implement its provisions in Tajikistan.
Participants discussed ways to strengthen coordination among relevant institutions, improve the legal framework, reinforce social policy and ensure equal opportunities for persons with disabilities to participate in public life.
The discussions also focused on protecting the rights and freedoms of persons with disabilities and ensuring that Tajikistan fulfills its obligations under the convention.
