CIS summit in Bishkek concludes with signing of 16 documents, four statements
A package of 16 documents was signed here at the 25th session of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Council of Heads of State on Friday.
Four statements on anti-terrorism and other issues were also adopted at the one-day summit, said Sergey Lebedev, chairman of the Executive Committee and CIS executive secretary.
Member states discussed the state of affairs in the CIS and the necessity of adaptation of the Commonwealth to the new realities, he said.
«I am pleased to say that all heads of delegations unanimously noted the relevance of the CIS.»
The statements, which were adopted almost unanimously by all the heads of the delegations, include the 25th anniversary of the CIS, which assesses the activities of the Commonwealth, states the need to improve and strengthen it.
The summit is attended by Presidents of Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Belarus, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, and Moldova’s Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and Ukraine’s Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan.
The following documents were signed:
- Decision of the Council of CIS Heads of States «on the Statement of Heads of States of the Commonwealth of Independent States in connection with the 25th anniversary of the CIS»;
Decision of the Council of CIS Heads of States «on the Statement of Heads of States of the Commonwealth of Independent States on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the completion of the Nuremberg Tribunal»;
- Decision of the Council of CIS Heads of States «on draft statements of heads of CIS member states on further joint efforts to combat international terrorism»;
- Decision of the Council of CIS Heads of States «on draft statements of heads of CIS member states on the results of the Special Session of the General Assembly UNGASS (19-21 April 2016, New York City)»;
- Decision of the Council of CIS Heads of States «on adaptation of the Commonwealth of Independent States to modern realities»;
- Decision of the Council of CIS Heads of States «on the chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States»;
- Decision of the Council of CIS Heads of States «on holding census of population of round 2020 in the CIS member states»;
- Decision of the Council of CIS Heads of States «on Declaring 2017 the Year of Family, 2018 — the Year of Culture in the Commonwealth of Independent States»;
- Decision of the Council of CIS Heads of States «on the implementation of the interstate program «Cultural Capitals of the Commonwealth» in 2017 in Azerbaijan»;
- Decision of the Council of CIS Heads of States «on the Cooperation Program of CIS members in the fight against terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism during 2017-2019 years»;
- Decision of the Council of CIS Heads of States «on Cooperation Program of CIS members in the fight against the cyber crimes during 2016-2020»;
- Decision of the Council of CIS Heads of States «on Amendments to the Regulations on the Interstate program «Cultural Capital of the Commonwealth»;
- Decision of the Council of CIS Heads of States «on holding the next meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council of Independent States»;
- Decision of the Council of CIS Heads of States «on the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States.»
In addition, the CIS Summit signed a Convention on inter-regional cooperation of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Protocol to the Agreement on the protection of participants in criminal proceedings as of 28 November 2006 on the reimbursement of costs associated with the implementation of protection measures.
