DUSHANBE, 25.11.2020 (NIAT Khovar) – The Chairman of the Russian Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko noted the importance of legislative support for the development of relations between Russia and Tajikistan. This was stated yesterday at her meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Tajikistan, Chairman of Dushanbe Rustam Emomali, according to TASS.
“Russia and Tajikistan are strategic partners. Relations between our countries are developing meaningfully in all directions. The issues of legislative support for the development of our relations are very important. We are ready to discuss them with you and we believe that inter-parliamentary cooperation is a very important component of interstate relations,” said Matviyenko.
She noted the increasing role of parliaments in a complex turbulent world and expressed the readiness of senators to develop close relations with the upper house of the Tajik parliament.
“Our country is the main trade and economic partner of Tajikistan. But here it is not only the economy, it is also the humanitarian sphere, and military-technical cooperation, and issues of regional security, including the situation on the Tajik-Afghan border, which is also very sensitive for us,” emphasized the Chairman of the Federation Council.
According to her, interregional relations between the two countries are developing very well.
“More than 60 Russian entities have established relations with their partners in Tajikistan. I think that within our inter-parliamentary commission it is necessary to constantly monitor how agreements are being reached. Some have more solid, concrete results of cooperation, while others still have it at the level of intentions. We, the upper chambers, need to encourage concrete interaction,” noted Matviyenko.
She stressed that Russia attaches great importance to Rustam Emomali’s visit and highly appreciates that he chose Russia for his first trip abroad as the Chairman of the National Assembly.
“We believe that it will give impetus to the entire complex of Russian-Tajik relations. I hope that you will have more than one reason to come to Russia. We would like to show you our regions. Each region is a separate story, separate opportunity and separate resource for deepening economic, investment and humanitarian cooperation. We hope that you will have such an opportunity,” said the Chairman of the Federation Council.
“I know that Moscow is not a foreign city for you, you studied here. I know that you have a warm attitude towards Moscow. You have also been to Moscow before. On November 25 you will also have something to talk about with the mayor of Moscow,” added Matviyenko.
She noted that the program of Rustam Emomali’s short visit to Russia is very rich. In particular, according to her, on Wednesday there will be meetings with the Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, and the Deputy Prime Minister, Co-Chairman of the Russian-Tajik Intergovernmental Commission Alexei Overchuk.
