Speaker of the National Assembly Rustam Emomali Meets the Speaker of the Russian Federation Council Valentina Matvienko

DUSHANBE, 24.02.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – Speaker of the National Assembly of Tajikistan Rustam Emomali met with the Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko who in Tajikistan on an official visit.
Following the official welcoming ceremony, Rustam Emomali and Valentina Matvienko had a one-on-one discussion. Later the talks continued in an expanded format.
The discussion focused on prospects for developing relations of strategic partnership with an emphasis on inter-parliamentary ties, as well as major international and regional issues.
On the eve of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Russia, which falls on April 4, Rustam Emomali expressed satisfaction with the friendly relations, high level of mutual trust, strategic partnership, and the fruitful results of this cooperation.
Mentioning Russia’s special place in the foreign policy of Tajikistan, Rustam Emomali noted that in recent years, through joint efforts, cooperation between the two countries, including at the parliamentary level, has reached a qualitatively new level.
They also noted that the upper houses of parliaments of the two countries continues to maintain close ties within CIS Inter-parliamentary Assembly, CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, and the Tajikistan ‒ Russia Inter-Parliamentary Commission.
Topics on the agenda also included the development of bilateral cooperation in trade, economy, culture, and humanitarian spheres.
Rustam Emomali and Valentina Matviyenko expressed satisfaction with the progress of consideration of issues related to labor migration and implementation of joint projects in the education sector.
While discussing the growing threat to global security, they also touched upon the situation linked with the developments in Afghanistan.
They expressed confidence that today’s meeting, as well as the results of the VII Parliamentary Forum Russia–Tajikistan: Potential for Interregional Cooperation taking place on February 25 in Dushanbe will give a new impetus to the expansion of multifaceted relations between Tajikistan and Russia.
