Speaker of the National Assembly Meets Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan

DUSHANBE, 11.05.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – Today in Ashgabat, Speaker of the National Assembly, Chairman of Dushanbe Rustam Emomali met with the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
Rustam Emomali congratulated Berdimuhamedov on the beginning of his work as the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty and conveyed President Emomali Rahmon’s fraternal greetings and best wishes.
He noted that today, due to the political will of the top leadership of the two countries, the process of successful development of a strategic partnership between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan in all areas of cooperation is taking place.
Rustam Emomali expressed confidence that through joint effort the level of inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries can be raised to the level of strategic partnership.
The meeting focused on the prospects for inter-parliamentary relations and development of cooperation with the Halk Maslakhaty, as well as important aspects of cooperation between the two countries in trade, economy, transport, cultural and humanitarian spheres, and issues of international and regional importance.
They was noted that the volume of trade in 2021 tripled compared to previous years, and this trend is continuing this year. They also noted that the effectiveness of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation must be increased.
Significant progress has been made in energy, transport and industry.
In order to expand cultural and humanitarian ties, they proposed increasing the number of educational grants from both sides and organizing Days of Turkmen Culture in Tajikistan in the near future.
In the context of interaction and coordination of positions on regional and international issues, including within the framework of the United Nations and the Commonwealth of Independent States it was noted that Tajikistan supports the initiative of the leadership of Turkmenistan to develop a UN strategy aimed at implementing low-carbon energy measures.
In connection with the events in Afghanistan, it was noted that the tendency to aggravate the political and socio-economic situation, as well as strengthening the positions of various terrorist and extremist groups in this neighboring country, is of concern.
In this situation, the parties considered it necessary to coordinate the activities of special services for the joint fight against modern global threats, such as terrorism, extremism, transnational organized crime, including drug trafficking.
