President Emomali Rahmon Holds Phone Talks with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres

DUSHANBE, 26.08.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon had a telephone conversation with the Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres.
The parties discussed the current state of and prospects of Tajikistan — UN cooperation and focused on key international issues, in particular ensuring peace and stability and sustainable development.
«Tajikistan will further continue to expand its cooperation with the UN and its agencies in the direction of advancing the global agenda, climate change, water agenda, fight against terrorism, extremism, illegal drug trafficking, and other manifestations of cross-border organized crime,» noted President Emomali Rahmon.
The two sides also exchanged views on the current situation in Afghanistan. President Rahmon stressed that the international community should continue to send humanitarian aid to the suffering people of Afghanistan. In connection with this, the readiness of the Tajik side to contribute to this process, including by providing the country’s logistical capabilities was expressed.
While noting the important role of UN’s Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), President Rahmon expressed hope that the organization and its related agencies will continue to pay attention to the Afghan issue.
