CIS leaders to approve new counterterrorism program for 2023-25, says Kremlin aide

DUSHANBE. October 14, 2022 /NIAT «Khovar»/. The leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will approve an updated program on comnatting terrorism and extremism for 2023-2025 during a summit in Astana, Kremlin Aide Yury Ushakov told reporters at a briefing on Wednesday.
«They [the sides] intend to approve an updated program of cooperation of CIS member states in combatting terrorism and extremism for 2023-2025,» Ushakov said.
The Kremlin aide said that based on the results of the CIS Council of Heads of State, the sides also planned to make a decision on whether the CIS should obtain observer status with the CSTO. In addition, they planned to sign an agreement on cooperation of the CIS member states in combating corruption. «There are plans to sign an agreement on establishing an advisory council of heads of CIS electoral bodies,» Ushakov said.
The Kremlin aide said that a number of documents would be adopted. «All in all, apparently, there will be somewhere between 17 and 18 documents. We hope that the leaders will approve them,» he added.
