Tajikistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jonibek Hikmat, has been elected chair of the 60th session of the U.N. Commission on Population and Development (CPD), according to a statement from Tajikistan’s mission to the U.N.
The election, announced on April 17, 2026, reflects what the mission described as the international community’s confidence in Tajikistan’s leadership and its commitment to population and development priorities, including health, education, gender equality, and the rights and well-being of women, children and youth.
Tajikistan said it looks forward to working with member states and partners to ensure a successful and impactful session of CPD60.
