Tajik officials and representatives of China’s Wangneng Environment have discussed plans to build a municipal waste processing plant in the capital, Dushanbe, that would generate electricity through waste recycling, according to Tajik authorities.

The talks involved Tajikistan’s Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Daler Juma, Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection Bakhodur Sheralizoda, and executives from the Chinese environmental company, the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources said.

Officials said the proposed project is aimed at improving environmental conditions, reducing the volume of municipal waste, and introducing modern waste-processing technologies while also helping expand electricity generation capacity.

Authorities added that the initiative could create new jobs as Tajikistan seeks to modernize its energy and environmental infrastructure.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties expressed readiness to continue discussions on implementing the joint project.
