A student from Tajikistan is taking part in a UNESCO × Nestlé youth event in Paris after a university-led sustainability project was selected among 100 top initiatives worldwide.
Ibrohim Ismoilov, a second-year environmental engineering student at the Tajik Mining and Metallurgical Institute, is attending the UNESCO Global Youth Grant Scheme closing event, which runs from June 2 to June 5 at UNESCO headquarters.
His participation is tied to the student project “Green Roots: Youth for Sustainable Agriculture,” which was developed at the institute and selected for implementation and funding in 2025 by UNESCO and Nestlé.
The project led to the creation of an educational and research space within the institute’s ecology department, including a soil and fertilizer analysis laboratory equipped with modern tools. The facility is intended to provide students with hands-on experience in environmental monitoring, soil testing, data analysis and digital technologies.
Ismoilov previously participated in the 2025 UNESCO Youth Forum in Samarkand, where young leaders discussed sustainable development, environmental protection and the role of youth in addressing global challenges.
The institute said his involvement in international programs reflects its broader efforts to strengthen student research capacity and expand access to global scientific and educational initiatives.
The four-day UNESCO program in Paris includes leadership training, networking with youth organizations, project presentations and discussions on expanding youth-led sustainability initiatives.
