Tajik athletes win 278 medals at international competitions in 2026

DUSHANBE, July 17, 2026 (NIAT Khovar) – Tajik athletes took part in more than 80 international competitions abroad in 2026, winning 40 more medals compared with the same period last year, the Committee for Youth and Sports said.

According to the committee, 480 athletes, including 137 women representing Tajikistan’s national teams in Olympic and non-Olympic sports, competed in 87 international tournaments during the reporting period.

They won a total of 278 medals — 76 gold, 88 silver and 114 bronze — marking an increase of 40 medals compared with 2025, including seven additional gold, 14 silver and 17 bronze medals.

The committee said 87 professional sports events were held in Tajikistan during the first half of 2026 under the national calendar of physical education and sports activities, involving 12,528 athletes, including 2,873 women.

Tajikistan’s national flag was raised 278 times at international competitions following athletes’ victories, while the national anthem was played 76 times in honour of their achievements.

In total, 5,420 professional sports events were organised nationwide during the period, involving 175,293 athletes, an increase of 108 events and 6,650 participants compared with the same period in 2025.
