Participation of the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan in the Third UN Special session on water and disasters “Adaptation to Climate Change and Water-related Extreme Events”
DUSHANBE, 21.07.2017. /NIAT “Khovar”/. On July 20, in New York, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan Nematullo Hikmatullozoda participated in and addressed the Third UN Special session on water and disasters “Adaptation to Climate Change and Water-related Extreme Events”. NIAT “Khovar” has been reported by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Nations.
In his statement, Nematullo Hikmatullozoda emphasized the significant increase in number of extreme natural phenomena in Tajikistan and noted the ever-increasing impact of climate change on the environmental situation in the country, as well as the high volume of glacier and snowfall melting.
Minister Hikmatullozoda also expressed hope that the International Decade for Action «Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028», will help strengthen the exchange of experience and knowledge and expand cooperation and partnership in water-related natural disasters.
