President Emomali Rahmon Holds Talks with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan in Beijing
DUSHANBE, 25.04.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – On the sidelines of the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held talks with the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
A broad range of bilateral matters, including the prospects of the friendly relationship between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and good neighborliness were discussed during the meeting, which took place in a friendly and open atmosphere.
President Emomali Rahmon expressed his gladness to once again meet with his friend, brother and counterpart President Mirziyoyev and pointed out that “each meeting will make a significant contribution to the expansion and further strengthening of relations between both countries.”
The heads of state expressed their satisfaction with the current state of cooperation. It was stressed that both countries are connected by the bonds on ancient traditions, mutual trust and respect, which serve as important factors in bringing about a qualitatively new level of cooperation for the benefit of both nations.
The previous year witnessed several historic events which have led to an improvement in the Tajik-Uzbek relationship. The parties called the important political events of 2018 the result of mutual effort, which have laid a solid foundation for effective cooperation in all spheres. The importance of the implementation of the reached agreements and operation of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation was also highlighted.
In the first quarter of 2019, the volume of trade turnover between the two countries has reached $62 million. The volume of trade turnover is expected to increase by $500 million in the coming years.
The counterparts also exchanged their views on the development and implementation of investment projects, construction of social facilities in the territory of both countries, as well as the expansion of cultural and humanitarian ties, including holding Tajik – Uzbek Cultural Days, and ensuring favorable conditions for the movement of citizens.
Emomali Rahmon and Shavkat Mirziyoyev also exchanged opinions on regional and international issues.
