Dushanbe Summit to Make Significant Contribution to the Implementation of CICA Objectives
DUSHANBE, 06.06.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Beibut Atamkulov received the Executive Director of the Secretariat of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) Habibullo Mirzozoda.
During the meeting, Atamkulov noted that Tajikistan was the fourth state in the history of the CICA to take the post of the Chairman of the Conference, and expressed gratitude to Mirzozoda for his active efforts in its further promotion and development.
The meeting was mainly focused on preparation for the upcoming fifth anniversary of the CICA Summit in Dushanbe, scheduled for June 14-15.
The parties also exchanged views on the summit’s final document, the Dushanbe Declaration.
Atamkulov expressed confidence that the upcoming summit in Dushanbe will significantly contribute to the implementation of the CICA objectives and principles aimed at strengthening dialogue and confidence in Asia.
In the 27 years since the establishment of the CICA, it has been transformed into a full-fledged effective forum ensuring the search for mutually acceptable measures to resolve problems and conflicts in Asia. Adhering to the trend of multipolarity and regional cooperation, the CICA continues to have a positive impact on the growth of mutual confidence and the development of a new architecture of security, stability and development of the region.
The parties also discussed the prospects for cooperation between the CICA and the OSCE in strengthening interregional cooperation and transcontinental security.
The sides also focused on the importance of further institutionalizing the CICA and strengthening its human resources.
