FM Muhriddin Meets Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation of Afghanistan

DUSHANBE, 22.12.2020 (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin met with the Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation of Afghanistan Dr. Abdullah Abdullah in Dushanbe.
The parties exchanged views on the situation in the region, including in Afghanistan, the process of inter-Afghan negotiations, and relations between Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
Cooperation between the two neighboring countries which share a common language allows Dushanbe and Kabul to share equal or similar positions on international and regional issues.
The parties emphasized that the joint fight against terrorism, extremism and illicit drug trafficking is an important area of cooperation. The officials noted that in order to overcome the consequences of the pandemic, it is necessary to increase cooperation and partnership between the two countries.
Muhriddin noted Tajikistan’s support of the Afghan government’s efforts in ensuring security, peace and stability in the country. In this regard, the Tajik side welcomes the process of inter-Afghan peace talks in Doha. The Tajik side hopes that the inter-Afghan peace talks will lay a solid foundation for restoring peace and stability in this long-suffering country.
Tajikistan recognizes the key role of Afghanistan in ensuring security throughout the Central Asian region and has always supported constructive initiatives of the international community to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan and its economic and social recovery.
Tajikistan and Afghanistan are successfully cooperating within the framework of international and regional organizations such as the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Organization for Islamic Cooperation. The parties also expressed satisfaction with the high level of political relations between the two countries.
